Home Again - April

We are back home again and have great news!!!! Our Tim and Trish got married on April 2nd. Not that she wasn't already our "daughter" but now it's official. It was a beautiful ceremony in the beautiful little chapel at Unity Hospital. We are so happy for them and us. Our son Rob luckily was able to be there for the ceremony. We love these kids so much. We are so happy that both our boys (sorry, men) have women that love them to pieces.

I have not been able to spend much time with my Tim these days as I have bronchitis and really don't want to make him sick. So I am loving him from afar. He is having a tough time these days and I pray daily that God will intercede and make a miracle for our family. There are prayers being offered up for him all over the country.

March RV Trip 2009

March 1 - Sunday Day 47

I went to church at CH, great as usual. We had lunch at BK around 11:30 because we never ate breakfast and went to Brownsville to see Emily and Darryl. We sat around and chatted for a while and then we proceeded to clean their clocks at nickels. Hee Hee!!!! Funny, they weren’t laughing. We had a piece of grapefruit pie and came back home. We got in at about 7:30 and took the pups to the park for their run and social time. There was a new baby puppy there named Onyx and she drove the girls nuts, especially Katie. She kept looking at Bob as if to say get her away from us. She was cute as a bug. (baby poodle)

March 2nd - Monday Day 48

I got up and went to my Quilters meeting and it was great. There are now 108 quilters in the group and the stuff they make is so gorgeous, I am so impressed. They make coats, purses and the quilts are just unbelievable. We also do many good works for the missions in Mexico (baby hats, quilts) and even water systems. We have currently gotten 4 water systems for their village from our group. They have no fresh water there. Ultimately we hope to have each family have their own water system.

In the after noon we went to a meeting with the fellow that owns this park (and 26 others). It was very interesting indeed. He is a Canadian.

We went to a Chinese Buffet called Lin’s. It was the best I have ever had. The food was fresh and wonderful.

March 3rd - Tuesday Day 49

Tonight Bob and I are going to go to the CH for a game of Pay Me (I believe this is what they call nickels here). Bad news, I think I am getting a cold again. I hope not, but I feel a little funky in the chest and I have a cough and wheeze. I am going to try the Airborne trick and pray a lot.

We played cards, had a ball, and my Bob won. Woo Hoo! Way to go BT.

March 4th - Wednesday Day 50

I went for a pedicure at the nail salon and then out to Donna (next town over) to a flea market called Don Wes. I had dropped Bob off there in the morning. This thing was huge. We met some people there from our park and stopped for a hamburger. Got some kettle corn and came home to get a few things done before we went out to Karaoke might at the Clubhouse. After that we went over to Eric and Phyllis house (MH). Have I mentioned how much I love tooling around in that little golf cart.

March 5, 2009 - Thursday Day 51

Bob went to a flea market and some big tool thing with Eric and I went and got my hair done. It looks fabulous. She gave me a body wave and I really like it. We shall see how great it looks when Tina isn’t the one who foofs it up for me. She is so much fun. I cannot wait to come back here and see all these people I have met.

Stopped at Walmart for some groceries and supplies for a blueberry salad I am going to make for the luncheon on Saturday. (yum)

We went to Lin’s again for Chinese, Good again. Talked to aunt Vicki and she is getting anxious to see us. We got a resort about 3 miles from her house and it is in the middle of a whole lot of things to do and see. Should be fun, I am really going to miss Texas, but will not be that long till we are back here. We are tentatively planning on getting out of Dodge before Halloween. Donna is going to kill me.

March 6 - Friday Day 52

Went out early this morning to Casa Grande and learned how to do an old art of weaving with embroidery thread. Fun and I made the cutest design on my t-shirt. This place is so much fun and there is no end to the talent of these women here. I could’ve learned so many more things but have to weigh and measure what to do as there is only so much time. I was going to learn Swedish weaving but ran out of time. They tell me it does carry on year after year, so in case you miss it, you can take it up next winter.

We went to Cici’s for dinner and met Eric and Phyllis and 6 of their friends from Bit-O-Heaven Park. They are really nice people from Iowa. Afterwards we met at the hot tub and just shot the breeze until about 11:00. It was about 71 degrees at 10:30 last night. Bob thought it was a little chilly. (It was windy, but chilly-I think not)

March 7, 2009 - Saturday Day 53

Went to the Rec hall for breakfast and sat with our Canadian friends. They only live an hour from the bridge in Niagra Falls. The quilters group is having their luncheon today and I am bringing my blueberry cheese salad. There are almost 80 women coming and every one is bringing a dish. (yikes) It should be interesting.

The luncheon was fabulous. There were 78 different dishes of food. It was all good but who could try everything. The gals had a fashion show with the clothes they bought from a ropa. This is a big ware house where they drop 2000 lbs of clothes in the middle of a warehouse and people literally climb this thing and dig for clothes. Then, you pay by the pound (about 35 cents a pound) One lady got a leather jacket from Lord and Taylor for $1.75. I didn’t get to one this time around but next year.

March 8 - Sunday Day 54

Church was fantastic today, we had a retired pastor that runs a mission in Mexico and he was so good. He was a great speaker and fun personality. I would love to do some mission work with him.
We took a ride to Harlingen to go to Hobby Lobby and it was closed on Sunday. So, we stopped at Sally’s and Walmart for a look see. Looked at a park on the way home (VIP La Feria) …..I don’t think so. We are so spoiled by this place (Llano Grande) it will be hard to settle any more.
We came home, let the girls off and went for an early dinner to a tiny little Italian Restaurant called Cantino’s. Wow, all homemade right down to the bread. Good stuff.
Phyllis and Eric came over on their bikes and we visited till it got too chilly our (went down to 70 degrees and windy) I know, I know.

March 9 - Monday Day 55

Had kind of a lazy day today, just lazed around home as it is pretty hot out and humid. In the afternoon we took the girls out for a ride to look at some RV parks in Donna, Texas. They were nice at first but not what we’ve come to really like in a park. You can click this link www.llanogranderesort.com and you will see right where we are (here in heaven). We are loving this place and definitely will return here next year, God willing and the crick don’t rise.
They don’t call us snowbirds here, we are known as Winter Texans. Yeh, baby!!!!!

March 10 - Tuesday Day 56

This is our last day here in Mercedes, bummer. We definitely will miss it here, but are anxious to see San Antonio and Aunt Vicki. It would have been great to meet Doug and Lynn here but that didn’t work out this time. After San Antonio (New Braunfels) we will start wending our way home.

We were going to play cards tonight with the group but we stayed out with Phyllis and Eric too long. (bummer). We went to their RV for the evening. Leaving tomorrow…..too soon to leave. Didn’t do all we wanted to but I guess I saved some stuff for the next time. I did a lot though in a short amount of time. I made so many great friends that I can’t wait to come here next year.

March 11th - Wednesday Day 57

We left Llano Grande this morning. We will definitely miss this place. A few of our friends stopped by to see us off. It was so nice. We got going about 10 am. The trip was pretty ho hum and we got into New Braunfels about 4:20. Picked up Aunt Vicki and took her out for a bite and then went to her apartment for a couple hours. This town is real cute. We will explore more of it tomorrow. Aunt Vicki looks great. We probably will get together tomorrow. This is the cutest little German town with lots of things to do and see.

Man, it went from the low 80’s to the 40’s today. Wow from air conditioning to heating in 6 hours, just like New York.

Talked to both of our boys today……Love those guys. Miss them.

March 12th - Thursday Day 58

We pretty much spent the day with Auntie today. Bob took the car over to a brake shop and got new shocks. They were shot and the car rattled enough to jar your teeth. It sounds so good now. Aunt Vicki made us breakfast and it was delicious. She makes the greatest pancakes. Then Bob went to fix the car and her and I did a little shopping here and there. It is just good being together.
We went to Red Robin for dinner and then back to Aunt Vicki’s for cheesecake You can plainly see that our diet is going great!!!!! NOT!!!
When we got into the car Bob got the chills and felt sick all the way home. He went immediately to bed. He was really sick all night long. (barfing and the other too). He thinks he got food poisoning from the chili chili cheeseburger he had at Red Robin, man he was in bad shape.

March 13 - Friday Day 59

Poor B got up sometime in the night and slept on the couch, said he had leg cramps in the night to boot. Jeepers, he had a night from hell. He seems better today but is never going to eat again…..EVER!!!!
The weather here has been just horrible, raining and really cold. It really doesn’t bother us that much except all the things we want to do (river walk, quaint little towns, etc) are outdoor activities and it has really been raining pretty good….it is pouring right now. Not only that, it is really cold and windy. Only 41 degrees out.
We are going to Tracy’s for dinner tomorrow night. Hopefully B will be better.
I spent the day with Aunt Vicki and we just ran around and did a few things (shopping, talking, etc) .
Bob spent the day in bed, He is one sick puppy. I don’t think we will ever go to Red Robin again even if it is not the chili he ate. I called to tell them but they didn’t seem all that concerned.
We went out to dinner tonight and Bob ate very little but it didn’t sit well and we came right home and he went directly to bed. So far, so good. He is still under the weather. I had a good time with Auntie today though, just shooting the breeze and being together.

March 14 - Saturday Day 60

Just sort of lazed around today, B on the mend but still has butterflies in the stomach so is eating very easily. He says he has a lot of sympathy for Timmer. Picked up Auntie Poo at about 1:00 and drove to San Antonio to a yarn store where I made a killing. What I wanted was hugely on sale. Woo Hoo!!!!! We then drove to Tracy’s for a turkey dinner. It was so good. Met most of her little (did I say little?) family. Well, we met nine out of ten. What a great bunch of kids she has. Love them all. She also has two grandbabies. Hayden and Madison. She actually has 7 grandchildren. We had a great time and got aunt Vick home by about 9:00. Good time, good food and good people. Leaving in the morning and will miss them all. But, accomplished what I wanted to do and that was see Aunt V.

March 15 - Sunday Day 61

Well the sun finally came out as we pulled
out of the park, go figure. Well that was short lived. It began to pour and has been pouring ever since. It was horrendous. It’s Like the sky just opened up. They really need it down here as it hasn’t rained in 2 years and they are in a drought situation. I say it could wait another few days. We are parked in a small lake here. Yuccky. Not good for the doggies either. We went to a place called Joe’s Crab Shack last night and had a great seafood supper. Fish was so fresh and good. Not the greatest of service though but food was excellent.

Still raining like crazy but supposed to let up tomorrow. Having an issue with the motor home, something keeps tripping and all the power goes off to everything. It is very strange indeed. Making us crazy….its back on now but who knows why or when it will go off again. Nothing works when it goes off. Very strange, Bob is puzzled.

March 16th - Monday Day 62

We just kind of dried out today, we are in Beaumont, Texas. It is like a lake here, they have had so much rain so fast. Did the wash, cleaned the windows and took a little ride through the town. It is real cute here. Weather today is perfect. It’s about 73 and sunny, our kind of winter weather. Nice little town. Right on the Louisiana/Texas border. The homes look real nice too. We got the MH spiffed up and ready to go. We are going to a casino in LA for a couple of nights. It will be fun. Only $10 a night and they give you $20 each to play. Sounds like a deal to me.

March 17 - Tuesday Day 63 (St. Patty’s Day) Beaumont, Texas (Gulf Coast RV Resort)

We met some really nice people at the Activity Room this morning. A fellow from Oklahoma comes in and announces it’s his birthday. He was 90 today, we sang HB to him. They had a free continental breakfast that was unbelievable, waffles, bagels, sweet rolls, cereal, donuts, juice, bananas, coffee, etc. It is fun to hear where everybody has been and are going next.
We got on the road about 10 am and it was a pretty great ride, some bumpy roads but all in all pretty good. Got into Louisiana Casino rv park around 3:30 and set up and went to the casino. Nice little casino and a great rv park, shuttle to the ccasino and the food in the café is to kill for. I had a salad that would knock your socks off. It came s erved on a platter of greens with rib eye steak on top and sautéed onions, peppers and mushrooms and tomatoes and cucumbers all around the platter. It was enough for 4 people-barely made a dent in it. Bob had a red fish and shrimp platter and came home with 4 pieces of fish left. Unreal!!!!!! It was delicious though.

I did ok at the casino, played for a couple of hours and only donated 5 dollars. Not too bad. They only charge $10 a night to stay here and the sites are really nice so we may stay an extra night.

March 18 - Wednesday Day 64 (Cypress Bayou/Shorty’s Casino & RV)

The weather here is gorgeous, 80 (actually it’s a little hot for me, but Bob loves it). I did some wash today and spiffed up the MH and B washed the car and the windows. We had a hot dog and salad dinner here and rested up and we went to the casino for some fun and mayhem. I actually did pretty well and could have been a winner if I had any self control and didn’t keep playing. I had a couple of Kahlua’s and ended up not losing any money so can go back tonight and play again. We went over there at 6:30 and played until 10:30 so had some fun. When we got back here it was still 68 degrees out. Nice!!!!

March 19th - Thursday Day 65

We talked to Tim this morning and he sounds good today. Thank you God!!!!! He is waiting for some tests to come back to see where he stands health wise. He sounds pretty great to me. Love my kiddos.

Talked to Aunt Vicki yesterday and she sounds good. She misses us. It was so great just being with her. I think it did us all good to be together.

On the road tomorrow and going back to Foley, Alabama for a few days at Palm Lake resort, we wanted to stay where we have booked for next year but they are booked solid for weeks because of Spring break. We were hoping to get in there to get a feel for it for next year. They have some really nice cabins there to rent also in case Tim and Trish want to come next year. It would be fun. We just may check it out any way. We are still undecided as to which route to take home. We have no internet here so can’t plan it out yet.

March 20 - Friday Day 66

Left Shorty’s about 9:15 and had a beautiful day to travel. We’re on the way back to Palm Lakes in Foley. Alabama. It’s going to be a long day driving wise. We have decided we only like to travel 3 to 4 hours a day. Any more is too much for us, our backs and our general mood. Someone told us a good rule to travel by is 222. Two hours driving, stop by 2:00 and stay only 2 days. Sounds good to us but we like to stay at a place we like, 2 weeks or maybe even 2 months later on. Yeh, Baby!!!!!

We got into Alabama about 3:00 and the weather is just gorgeous, breezy, sunny and about 73 degrees. Nice place to roost for a bit.

March 21 - Sat Day 67

I am having a bit of a stomach/back issue today. I have to be careful of what I eat these days. Nuts and so forth….no good.

The internet here is iffy…..can’t seem to stay on very long. I wanted to do some exploring but I guess it will have to wait.

Bob talked to our Tim, he did not have the greatest of news but he feels pretty good today. I pray every day is a good day for him.

We went out and looked at some motor homes today and found one that had everything we wanted on it. They wanted 2 arms and 2 legs for it. It will happen one of these days.
Nerds didn’t want to give us bupkus for our beauty.

Sunday March 22 - Day 68

Church was called off because Pastor was out of town. I am very disappointed. We didn’t do much today just enjoyed the day. Weather is just great.

Monday March 23 - Day 69

Time is winding down now. Bob and I and our girls took a little road trip to Orange Beach, and to the Gulf Shore. It sure is a pretty little area here. The day was gorgeous and we really enjoyed looking around. I like the town of Orange Beach. It has some really nice stores, restaurants and some fun things to do. We will have to explore this later on. They are having a bus trip to a casino on Thursday and I may just do it. Need a little distraction. We went to the roll throwing place tonight and it was fun, food was great and the weather was so beautiful when we came out, it was balmy and about 71. That is what I’m talking about!!!!! This is winter extraordinaire. Pinch Me, I am dreaming.

Tuesday March 24 - Day 70

It threatened rain today so I just took off and shopped around town today…just looking and exploring the little shops that looked interesting. Got a few little gottsies and met some nice folks…they are sure nice down here. I am so glad we didn’t opt for Florida, the people down south and in Texas are just wonderful. Alabama is great too!!!!!
We are picking up a traveler in Tennessee, Rob is going to ride back home with is, that should be fun. I love it. Tim will be glad to see him too.

We went to a place called Ryan’s tonight…….unbelievable. It was a buffet that was huge. They had all kinds of good stuff. Of course we ate too much. Mooooo. Good though. We must stop this madness.

Wednesday March 25th - Day 71

We took a drive around the area today. We went to the state park and it seemed real nice. It had full hookups and nice cement pads. I guess it was wiped out with one of the hurricanes (I think Ike). It is still a work in progress but it looks pretty nice if we needed a place for a few days. There were signs there that said “Do Not Feed the Alligators”, could this be a problem? I think not. We looked around a town called Orange Beach and it looks really like a nice little town, right on the gulf.

When we got home we changed and went out to a place called O’Charleys. It was really good and the waitress was a hoot. She had lovely blue eye shadow and a lot of it. She was too funny.

We had one hairy night. Thunderstorms like crazy and it rained torrents. We did not get much sleep as the dogs were all over us all night. It was kind of scary.

Thursday March 26th - Day 72

I went on a bus trip to Biloxi, Mississippi with the gals from the park today. We had a ball. Mildred is the park manager and Marianne works in the office. We had so much fun. We went to a casino called Hard Rock Casino and it was just wonderful. It had lots of memorabilia to look at in the glass cases and of course the slots. We had a great time, I wasn’t going to go but decided at the last minute and I was glad I went. I was doing real good but didn’t know enough to leave the machine when I had won $85. You would think I would learn wouldn’t you? Oh well, I had a ball.

Friday March 27th - Day 73

It was another horrific night of thunderstorms and lightning. At least there was no damage here just a bad storm.

We pulled out of Palm Lakes at about 9:00 and Marianne and Howard were there to see us off. She is one of the sweetest gals I have ever met. We decided to meet in Maine and go to Martha’s Pies together. I was sad to leave there. They are from Maine originally and go back there in the summer. They are full timers and they love it.

I do believe the weather cleared up just for our trip. It was overcast all day and the sun peeked out as we pulled into Birmingham South for the night. We hooked up and drove the car to Birmingham to find Barnie’s Coffee Co. It went well until we tried to drive back to the campsite. I have never ever seen such traffic, not even in California. It took us over an hour to go 17 miles. I guess we forgot it was Friday. We even stopped to eat because the traffic was not moving at all. We got back home and our mission was accomplished. I even had a wonderful foo foo coffee.

Saturday March 28 - Day 74

Well, the end is near for this trip. We started out about 8:30 and got into Tennessee about 3 or 3:30. We parked on the street adjacent to Rob and Lou’s home. It was very nice except no hookups. Very nice neighbors though ; ). We went over to R & L’s house for the afternoon, sat in the sun for a while and yakked. All of a sudden there were warnings everywhere, sirens, news broadcasts etc that a tornado was coming right through. It was a little hairy though. We lucked out and we just got the storm part and the tornado hit a bit away from us. Lou was going to a wedding at the same time.
We went to place called McAllister’s for a sandwich and salad. It was a very nice place.
We dropped Rob off as he has to work in the morning. We got to bed about 9:30.

Sunday March 29 - Day 75

We got up and went to church this morning and what a blessing it was. It is one of the nicest group of people I have ever met and I am sure it is because the pastor is just fabulous. Yes there is some prejudice there, so sue me. He is my boy.
After the service RJ the handsome assistant pastor called us up and the whole church prayed over us for our family. It was very powerful. We love all of them.

We got on the road about 1:00 and Rob rode along with us. It was fun, he drove part of the way and we had a wonderful trip except guess what I got sick again.

Monday March 30 - Day 76

We are home. I have the cold from hell!!!!!!!! Unbelievable. This just cannot be. I have things to do, people to see. I cannot get near my Boy until I am well as his immune system is kaput at this time.

February RV Trip 2009

February 1, 2009

Day 19 Sunday

We woke up to sunshine and 61 degree day. It is Super Bowl Sunday. The birds are chirping like crazy. It is really hard to believe January is gone already. We pretty much stayed around the home today. I am still dealing with this sore throat and yuck so don’t really feel up to par. I did go to Walmart for a few essentials. I really wanted to just walk around but did not feel well enough. There really is nothing to report as I am sort of a drag these days.

Feb 2

Day 20 Monday

I still feel crappy so I will talk about Bob because he is feeling better these days and is at least going outside the MH. He has been just puttering around these days: (walking the girls, cleaning out the car, washing the MH, etc). Oh yes, and beating the heck out of me in Gin Rummy. Kick me when I am down.
We have made our reservations for next year at a great resort in Foley, Ala called Gulf Breeze. Believe it or not they are already booked solid for January, Feb, and March. So we booked for Nov 23-Dec27. We are happy.
We are having a sunshade made for the front windshield today. They come right here and make it on site.
I cannot believe how many people we meet are full timers. They seem to love it. They have sold all their belongings and just have a few things in storage somewhere (pictures, treasures, etc). I think Bob would like it but I would have to give it a lot of thought. I like my home.

Feb 3

Day 21 Tuesday

The sunshade is being made for the front windshield today.
Well, I found a store. Man is it nice. I never thought I would say this but it gives Wegman’s a run for its money. It is called H.E.B. and it means Here Everything’s Better. It is amazing. I could spend hours in there. They have everything, sort of a cross between Wegs and BJ’s.
The sunshade is fabulous, keeps all the glare away from the front window/

February 4

Day 22 Wednesday

Well I stayed in all day today Man I felt bad……horrid head cold with the headache from hell.. Bob beat feeted it away for the day and went to see the aircraft carrier called the USS Lexington which is docked in Corpus Christi. I am glad he had something to do as I was a drag. He said it was great and has some photos for those of you who are interested. Luckily for him it was an all day excursion, as I never left the bed, nor did my 2 nurses.
I was in bed at 5:00 and slept on and off all night. (yeesh)
.
I am still sicker than a dog (whatever that means) so just hacked and blew my way all over the motor home. I am sure the folks parked on either side of me have shut their windows in case of any germs escaping.

February 5

Day 23 Thursday

Leaving tomorrow so did not really get a chance to scout the area. Sure haven’t felt good enough to give that store a thorough look. Oh well, Bob tells me there are 4 of them where we are going.J. The weather here has been terrific. It was in the 70’s day and 60’s at night. Perfect I say……never got to sit around the pool. Next place I hope. Good news!!!! I was able to eat tonight and feel a little better. Could have been the 15-24 hours of sleep I had Wednesday. Bob took the girls down to the beach for a while.

BTW, the other day when Bob was walking the dogs some old fart said “Oh I see you have a Westie?” Bob said yes and the guy looked at our precious Katie and said “and what is that one, a fat Chihuahua? Bob answers in his typical Bob way “ No, she’s a fat toy Fox Terrier”. It is a good thing I was ill and ready to leave so I was not able to hunt him down. What nerve!!!!!!

February 6

Day 24 Friday

Had a good nights sleep again and woke up feeling better. The headache has subsided and I feel pretty ok about traveling today. I hope it is a short run. We are going to a Resort in Brownsville Texas, it looks fabulous. It is called Winterhaven Resort and they have lots to offer I think.

We got here about 2:45 and the park is real nice but mostly all permanent residents. Some of the lots are really nice though and gorgeous homes. Some are brick and really upscale. It is more like a residential neighborhood than an RV resort. Don’t know if we will book another week at this time. I am so loving the Texas weather though. It has been gorgeous since we got here. It seems they are in a draught situation and need the rain badly.

Feb 7

Day 25 Saturday

What a gorgeous day in Brownsville. It is 10:30 and 74 degrees out. I guess most people do not like it down here as it is very windy. We love it. We just don’t put out the awnings. Katie hates it. Hopefully she will get used to it, it is pretty strong. I think if it were still it would be too hot. We are planning on going down to Padre Island for a drive today. It looks like a good day for it. The people next door have a lab pup and he looks so much like Duffy (my brother’s dog). He is a pup and full of pep and energy. It is so cute to watch. I think he’s going be a good sized dog. He is cute as heck and fun to watch also. His name is Buddy. He is 4 months old, and full of the dickens. All we hear from dawn to dusk next door is no, stop, and get down. I think any of you who has ever owned or known a lab knows what I am talking about.

We drove out to S Padre Island and found 2 great parks, the KOA is fabulous and the state park is right on the beach but not so nice. We were going to try the park but it is first come first serve and you have to take anything that they offer. The beach was fabulous though. We will look at some more parks tomorrow. We found a really nice little restaurant called The Vermillion. The food was really good, I had broiled tilapia and Bob had chicken fried steak. We stopped at a store on the way home for a few things and now are in safe and sound.

We went to sleep with a Mariachi Band in the background last night. Everything and I do mean everything has a Mexican flair down here. The food, music and housing also. It is so much like California here.

Feb 8

Day 26 Sunday

We went out looking in the area for our next destination. Not too good around here, so we will have to venture out a little. Outside this park the area is not so good. But really haven’t taken the time to look around. What we have seen is not so great. It was a nice ride with the girls. We stopped at DQ for a goodie and I guess they don’t have chocolate ice cream down here L What is that all about, I was forced to get a vanilla which I shared with the girls. I can’t get over it, no chocolate……what do the women do down here? Must be a lot of unexplained violence down here, eh? Guys, have your woman explain this to you.

Feb 9

Day 27 Monday

It was another car ride day (my favorite thing to do in the whole wide world)….NOT!!!
But, we found a couple of great RV resorts and have booked one in Mercedes, Tx. called Llano Grande Lake Park Resort for 2 weeks starting on the 25th of February. It looks wonderful and they have everything, including a woodshop that Bob would like to get into. While we were driving through we met a couple named Carol and Steve and they seemed real nice.
They also told us about another park down the road a bit that they say is even nicer but they prefer this as it has golf.
We saw another one called Victoria Palms in a town called Donna and it was fabulous. They have thousands of grapefruit trees that you can pick grapefruits every day if you want. Unreal. Both places are just what we like (lots of amenities) and you all know how I love those amenities. Yeah, Baby!!!!!!

Feb 10

Day 28 Tuesday

The weather is getting pretty hot and humid now, up into the 80’s and humidity into the 80% and 90%. I am not going to complain but when the wind dies down it is pretty warm. Thank God there is a really hard wind in these parts or you would be awful hot.

Three fellows from town came this morning and put in a new windshield. They did a fabulous job in under an hour and serenaded me and the girls the whole time. Maybe they were from the Mariachi Band from a few nights ago. They were a hoot.
We went out to the Texas Roadhouse for dinner. We had a good time except for a loudmouth duffer at the next table. Man, he was so rude and nasty and had a filthy mouth. Thank God he shut up when the food came. I wanted to pop him one.

Feb 11

Day 29 Wednesday

Not much going on today, weather much cooler and kind of overcast. It is a good day to relax and get some things done.
Before I forget, we talked to Doug and Lynn and we are going to try and meet up in either San Antonio or New Braunfels. It seems Lynn also has an uncle in NB. What a small world. I hope it works out. They are checking their calendar to see if we can work something out. I do hope so.

Feb 12

Day 30 Thursday

We talked to Tim today and he sounds pretty good. Looks like things are doing ok right now. Thank you Jesus!!!!! He called back and he found his wallet that he had lost during the snow storm. I am happy about that; it is so frustrating to have to replace all your ID’s and such. We were going to pool it today but the sun went in and only peeked out a few times today.

Talked to Emily today and she and Darrell are here in Brownsville. We will meet up when we are on the island (Padre). I think they just want to win their nickels back. I think not!!!!!!!We are excited to move on although I don’t feel we have really gotten to know this place. We will next time.

Feb 13

Day 31 Friday

We arrived on Padre Island at 11:00 AM and were at the pool by noon. In 3 short hours we are done. That lily white Rochester skin just crisped right up L We went to the clubhouse and saw an Elvis impersonator. He was fantastic. Didn’t look like him as much and he sounded so much like him if you closed your eyes you couldn’t tell the difference.
Great!!!!! Ruthie would have gone nuts.

We got home too late to eat so poor us just settled for a Dairy Queen instead.
It is still 73 degrees out at 9pm. It is so easy to forget that it is February. Just going to put on some Noxzema to cool down the old fire skin and hit the sack.

This place is just wonderful. They have these little cottages right on the water that are adorable. We met some people that have been staying in one since the last week in Dec. They have little front porches where you can sit out on the ocean. The cost is $99 a day but everything is included. They even come each day and collect the linens and wash them for you. In February the cost goes up to $250 a day. YIPES!!!! I think maybe that is to discourage the spring breakers.
I will check them out tomorrow. They look adorable.

February 14 Saturday

Day 32

It is another gorgeous day in Texas. It is 8:00 and the sun is out and it is 70 degrees. Since we are 2 Crispy Critters I think we will explore the island today they have all sorts of wildlife stuff out here, sea turtles and a dolphin research.

Never got out on the island but spent another day around the pool. Met a great family from Canada, we had a great time. Didn’t need the added sun though……ouch!!!!

We went out on the pier for dinner and watched the fishing boat come in and throw their scraps to the pelicans. If you go out on a deep sea fishing trip they will cook your catch when you come in any way you want, broiled, Cajun or fried and they will add slaw and fries. Bob may do this on Tuesday. On Monday our friends Emily and Darrell are coming out here for the day.

February 15 Sunday

Day 33

We drove out on Padre Island and did some sightseeing. Honestly the weather here is unbelievable. Not too hot but nice enough to go swimming. I am going to take a water aerobics class on Monday morning. It should be fun. The people here are really nice and the activities are really fun. The couple that run the social activities are a hoot. She reminds me of Debbie Reynolds. She’s cute as can be and her husband is a breaker.
Went out to an Italian restaurant called Marcello’s and the food was just super. It was really great and a we had a waiter that couldn’t do enough to make us happy. The sauce was unbelievable as was the food. If you ever get to South Padre Island There will be no disappointment.
Bob had stuffed flounder and I had ravioli’s with a shrimp sauce with sweet sausage, need I say more. I won’t even get started on the homemade garlic strips. We rolled back to the MH to plunk on our butts. Moo!

Monday Feb 16

Day 34

Emily and Darrell who we met in Alabama came over today and we had a great day. We went to Dirty Al’s for a late lunch and then came back for a few games of nickels. We didn’t win but it was a hoot. They are staying in Brownsville for a month. I think we will hook up one more time.
I took the water class this morning and it was great. The teacher is great and the class was huge. We did a good job and had a ball. The instructor is from NYC and she is a hoot. Good time.
This must be grapefruit territory. Our neighbor gave us a bag of them and Em and Darrell came over with another bag. Maybe I should try the good old grapefruit diet. (yeah, right)

Tuesday Feb 17

Day 35

We just kind of lazed around today and didn’t do much of anything. Took a ride out to the island once again and looked for t-shirts and an bathing suit cover. Not much luck. Well we came home, cleaned up and went to the club house for the entertainment. He was a singer and he was real good. His wife sat with Bob and I and gave us all kinds of good info for the area we are going to tomorrow as they stay not far from where we are going in Mercedes TX. They are full timers also. It is starting to sound very interesting. Even to me. I am telling you the weather here is not to be believed. I still cannot believe it is February.

Wednesday Feb 18

Day 36

We got up late, and I went to my class and when I got back we left the KOA. In an hour we found absolute paradise. This place is so beautiful. It really is like being on a cruise ship. The people are great and there is so much to do or not do (whatever you want). We have already taken a walk around here, had a homemade spaghetti dinner. Sat around the pool with some new people and now Bob is sitting outside having coffee and saying over and over “this is unbelievable” and “are you kidding me?”
The people we sat with at dinner are from Oklahoma and stay here for 6 months at a time and leave their rig right here and it costs them $260. per month all year. I went to the bathroom by the pool and it was one of the nicest I have ever been in. Each commode and sink (pedestal) has its own room and mirror. Unreal……Love it.
Oh, our golf cart will be here tomorrow. Donna loves golf carts. This place is too big to walk everywhere and I don’t really feeling like driving the car all over.
They have a dog park here complete with a lake for the dogs. It is the best DP we have ever seen. Pictures will follow.

February 19 Thursday

Day 37

We had a real great day after the long wait for the Golf Cart to come. Once that was here we tooled about the park with the “girls” Mystie rode in the front and Katie sits in the basket right behind our heads on a quilt. It is the cutest thing ever. They just love it. We took them over to the doggie park and then went to an auction from the state of the art wood shop they have here. It was also a cook out. We met some great folks from Iowa. You can join the woodshop for $50 per year and then have full use of it. It wouldn’t pay Bob to do it this time as we are not here long enough. He will tour it tomorrow. We got in around 7:30, tired.

February 20, 2009 Friday

Day 38

Not a very exciting day here in Paradise. We didn’t get up till nine o’clock…..lazy as heck we are. When we finally got our butts in gear it was too late to do anything so we went to the laundry room and cleaned all the quilts and did the wash. We went to the office to book more weeks and asked about work camping and what to do. I guess you have to commit to five months which would be Nov-March. We have to think if we want to come here and stay right here for that long. Then we went out for a few staples and back home for dinner.

Before I forget it, every morning all the parrots come flying in here and perch, it is the most amazing sight to see. They are so beautiful and it is something to see them in the wild instead of caged. I am told this is one of the largest birding areas in the US. Birders come here from all over the world. We took some pics….hope they come out.

The weather has been pretty chilly both last night and today. It is breezy and around 69. We have a sweatshirt on. We really don’t mind though. I am not looking forward to going back to chilly weather. (I know, I know).

February 21 Sat

Day 39

I have some crazy stomach bug today. I cannot go far from my best friend john. I just can’t get rid of these cramps so guess I will just have to ride it out. Our friends from Padre Island are coming through today and it does not look good for me. Hope its not food poisoning. Bob is going to Don West a huge flea market down here to scope it out for me.
Audrey and Dick came and I was the worst hostess, spent all the time they were here in the loo. They both had the same thing so they were sympathetic but it was embarrassing to say the least.

February 22 Sunday

Day 40

Felt a little better this morning so we went to church, it was great. Pastor was super and so was the service, sort of a mix between the old time church and the new, cool. We met some great folks from Canada. (Al & Donna)
Tonight we went to a barbershop quartet concert there were 60 of them and it was so good. They did a lot of oldies such as South Pacific and from WWII. They were too cute. I just kept thinking how much our Moms would have liked it. Lot of songs from their era.

I didn’t feel too good when I got home. I have a problem whenever I eat anything. (bad cramps).

February 23 Monday

Day 41

We got up this beautiful sunny day and Bob took the girls to the Doggie Park and I went to Quilting class. I think I like it. I met some great gals there. They started out with 12 and now are 100 strong. Some of the things they make are so beautiful. I can’t believe it.
After breakfast/lunch we went out looking at some thing around here. We checked out the bridge to Mexico so when we come we will know the ropes. We looked at another park but we are so spoiled here and it is hard to go back to not so great.

February 24 Tuesday

Day 42

We took a little ride with the girls to Mission TX to look at a couple great resorts. One is called Bentsen Palm Village and Green Gate. Boy, were they great We loved both of them but Green gate you had to buy a site there, but it was gorgeous. We looked at some that were for sale and pondered the idea. We aren’t ready to settle down to one area just yet and I don’t know if it is a good investment as we don’t know what they sell for. They were real nice though.

I went to a friends’ house tonight and made some things with a bunch of gals. It seems so funny getting in a golf cart to go home. We had a great time. Everyone here knows how to do something and they all want to teach it to anyone. We crocheted these cute necklaces, and bought some too. They are soo cute for a little gottsie gift for someone. I had never seen one in Roch. I am suppose to go over there tomorrow to learn stamping. Whatever that is.

February 25 Wednesday

Day 43

I didn’t get to go to Cordy’s house today as I got an appointment to get a haircut. She was so great, my hair is highlighted and cut and it is one of the best haircuts I have ever had. Friday I have a nail appointment. It is a different product so I am hopeful. It was so hot today. In the upper 80’s and will be in the 90’s tomorrow. (nails and then pool I think). Talked to Timmer today and sounds better. The kid is a fighter that’s for sure. That’s my boy!!!!!!

The girl are loving the dog park, meeting all sorts of canine friends and having a ball. Mystie is in hog heaven running with all them. Katie is too but doesn’t really run with
them as they are all bigger than her. She barks them up though.

February 26 Thursday

Day 44

We went to McAllen and Harlingen hunting for a special yarn that I need. No luck but stopped at a place with no name for a monster cheeseburger. We had read about it on line and people just raved on and about it. It was huge and it was good but not to die for. It was an experience. It was a good burger. The wait was pretty long.

I just cannot say enough about this dog park, the dogs just love it so much, it is amazing how well they all get along and how they look for each other to play each day. The girls are going to miss it so much.

When we first got here we met a gal in the office from Tonawanda, NY and we spoke for a minute before she got off work. Well, they stopped over last night and we talked until nearly 1:00 am. They are a great couple and we have a lot in common. Bob and Dave are going to an Classic Auto show tomorrow. I think Phyllis and I might just have to sit around the pool, I know but someone has to do it.

February 27

Day 45 Friday

My nails turned out just perfect, I am so happy I was a little nervous, I will go back to this gal. Mirna is the best. She had my product too!!!! Charged me only 17 bucks.I am going back for a pedicure.
My legs are so swollen I cannot believe it. I have to get some compression stockings. They look just awful. They hurt too!!! Hair and nails lookin good and feet like clubs.
Getting to know this area, it is real nice. Everything is nearby and convenient.

The weather has turned hot hot hot, it was almost 100 degrees today. No humidity but pretty scorching just the same. It is 6:00 and it went down to 85. My hot NY body is steaming. The boy who checked me out at the store said “Yep, this is winter.” Wow, summer must be a bear.

Feb 28th

Saturday-46

Katie has developed all kinds of infections, eyes, ears and had to take her over to the vet. Man, were they nice. She has an ear infection and an eye infection. We got her fixed up and some meds and off we went. We picked up Eric and Phyllis from Tonawanda and took off for the day. We went to an auto show and to look at some new homes and then out to dinner. We had a lot of laughs. They are fun.

Thank God for everything!!!!

January RV Trip 2009

January 14 - Day 1

We left Webster at 8:14. Sky clear and cold but dry. Roads good. We stopped at the Cracker Barrel in Henrietta for breakfast. Weather was clear until just past Pennsylvania. Conditions are snowy and colder than cold. Everything is icing up and freezing. Driving conditions are terrible. We are tired and a little cranky, probably a little nervous about the weather. We got to Jeffersonville, Ohio and the weather was getting horrendous. We tried to get somewhere to stay when the motor home started beeping like crazy telling us something is wrong. It was driving us nuts so we pulled over in a Quality Inn parking lot to check it out. Seems the jacks are covered in ice so with weather at 10 degrees and no chance of this beeping to stop. So we made the fabulous decision to stop and stay at the Inn. We got a good night sleep and a fabulous shower. PTL.

January 15 - Day 2

We were on the road about 8:41, very cold but roads clear and sunshine. Beeping has stopped and all is well at this point. We are on the way to Nashville. Rob says it is cold (11 degrees) but no white on the ground. Conditions continue to be freezing cold but clear and sunny. We got in about 3:30pm and had dinner at Rob and Lou's. We ordered in from the Outback, it was real good and we had a wonderful evening. Then we got home about 9:45 and the heat in the motor home keeps tripping off and it is freezing. Bob is panicking a bit and I am contemplating packing a bag and going back to Robs. We called the 800 help line for our coach and the guy saved our little lives by telling Bob about a reset button. OMG!!!!! Heat stayed all night, thank God.

January 16th - Day 3

We cannot get the car or motor home cleaned as all their pipes here are frozen. Consequently there is no water to be had either as the park turned off all the water to find a leak in a pipe. So no water all day and I feel like a pig. Cold as cold can be and this is very odd for them down here so they are not really prepared. Pretty much stayed around the coach today and vegged. There is not much to do as it is between 11 and 16 degrees so we can't go outside for anything. Around 3:00 Bob took the car for gas and to hopefully to at least clean the windshield, it looks absolutely disgusting, like a white salt bucket. It is embarrassing. I think we didn't bring enough winter clothes. :( The motor home keeps tripping off again, something is amiss, We have to figure it out. Bob is going over to the RV dealer (next door) and see if he can get help figuring it out. This turned out to be a loose wire. (yay). We had the propane tank filled.

Jan 17th (Tim's B-day) - Day 4

Bob was able to get the car washed... looks so good. Made arrangements to have a fellow (Roscoe) come and wash the Motor home. Went to Rob and Lou's around 3:00 pm and we went out to dinner at a place called Molinari's. We all had chicken french except Bob had chicken parm. It was really good. Stopped at Starbucks for a foo foo coffee and went back to the house with all the dogs for the evening. All the little girls got along great. We had a great evening and got home at around 8:30.

January 18th - Day 5 Sunday

Went to church, it was so great, Rob had a great service and we left about 12:30. Talked to Bernie and Nikki....they are going to have a baby. She looks so cute. Lunch at Stan's truck stop…had hamburgers. They were exceptional. Drove on to Greenville, Alabama, stopped at Sherling Lake Park campground, it was so nice, could have stayed there for a few days. Got everything working good, filled up with water and all systems are good, slept great and left about 11:30.

January 19th - Day 6 Monday

Left Greenville, Al and pretty much drove all day, roads great and traffic good. Got in to Foley, Alabama about 3:30ish. This place is really nice. GPS sent us past our destination and. we are a little irritated with her. Didn't eat except for an English muffin and we were very hungry and of course ate too much. The place we went to is called Lamberts where they throw rolls at you. It was kind of fun and the food was fabulous, but way too much. Bob had the liver and he said it was fabulous. My roast beef was great too. The place is a hoot. Bob went to bed at 9:00 and I tried to watch a little TV and fell asleep in the chair. It is still a little chilly out. It's 40-50 but windy, so it feels a lot colder. We are excited about the Inaugural tomorrow. What a great time to be in America.

January 20th - Day 7 Tuesday

We slept great and got up about 8:30. Just getting things in order here and have no plans for the day. I am thinking we may take a trip to Wally's World to get a clock and a few gotsies. Weather is sunny but chilly. This morning a fellow a few coaches down had a stroke and Bob gave him a couple of aspirins. I am praying that he is ok. We went to the Outback for dinner and then stopped to Walmart for a few things. We were home and in bed early.

Jan 21st - Day 8 Wednesday

Deb called at 6 am so we caught up. Talked to Trish yesterday and seems Tim has gotten pneumonia, and they are treating this before any chemo can be done. The kid can't catch a break. It is still very cold here 20.s and 30's. It feels very wintery with the wind. Sun is enjoyable. We are thinking of taking a drive down to the gulf shores this afternoon and I imagine it will be colder than cold on the water. Bob hasn't even thought of taking his new bike out as it is too cold. Having a stomach issue these days, don't really know what is causing it but doesn't seem to curb my appetite any but all hell breaks loose after I eat. (yipes).

Jan 22nd - Day 9 Thursday

The weather is gorgeous today. The temperature is in the 60's. I walked up to the Lake house to see the art class. They were good. We drove down to the gulf shore and looked around at some other resorts. We found a real nice one that we would like to try. (Gulf Breeze). We went to Lulu's for lunch on the gulf. She is Jimmy Buffett's sister and the place is really unique. We went to the Lake House to play bingo with our $1 gift in a paper bag. It was a hoot. You would think they were million dollar prizes. We met Darryl, Emily and Delma. We had a few laughs. We are thinking we need to get some mouse traps as we think we may have a stowaway. (I hate this).

Jan 23rd - Day 10 Friday

Weather is still great. Bob went out for some supplies to deter and eliminate our unwanted guests. Did some wash and cleaned out the cupboard. We ate the first of our hot dogs and had some macaroni salad. We didn't do too much today just enjoyed the day. We set some traps and put in some electronic pest repellents. Watch out Mickey!!!!!!!!!

Jan 24th - Day 11 Saturday

It is raining today. We caught one in the bathroom, and Bob the hunter has removed it from our home, it really is kind of gross. That's what you get if you dare to eat my peanut butter cookie mix .We slept with the windows open last night for the first time, it was great. We went to the cocoanut room and saw the movie Mama Mia with Meryl Street, it was so good. After the movie we stopped in to "The Opry" and caught the end of the show. We went to the Longhorn steakhouse for dinner.

Jan 25th - Day 12 Sunday

It is overcast today but mild, in the 60's. We went to church here this morning and the pastor was a great guy, he pastors a little church down the road a piece and comes here every Sunday AM before his service. We met really nice folks here. This is such a nice little community. .I could stay here longer. Maybe next time we will stay for a month. This afternoon we met Emily and Darrell and Dave and Betty at the Lake House for cards. We learned a new game called nickels, it was fun. Carol is going to love it. I actually won a game for a change. We went to dinner at the Shrimp Basket with Emily and Darrell. We will probably meet up with them in Brownsville Texas in a couple of weeks. Tomorrow we will be on our way to New Orleans for Mardi Gras.

Jan 26th - Day 13 Monday

Today is Bob's official duffer birthday. Now the money will be rolling in before we know it. Watch out now. We haven't found any more evidence of critters so we are thinking we only had one stowaway. I can only hope. Moving on today and have mixed feelings, we like it here but want to check out some other places. Bob has contracted his "vacation" cold so the germs are flying, just hope it comes and goes without getting too awful bad. I am hoping he sounds worse than he feels. I really do not want a cold right now. I feel bad for him. He is a snot bag right now.

We got into New Orleans about 3:00; it is unbelievable how much devastation is still present here. What a mess. It really is something when you see it in person. The KOA is packed, Nice though. We are scheduled to take a shuttle into the city tomorrow. They even have a gal here that will come in and walk the girls while we are in the French Quarter as the shuttle leaves at 9 am and doesn't return until 6 or so. We went out to a local seafood place for dinner and had shrimp and catfish. It was real good. When we came home we put in a load of wash, boy we are vacation maniacs aren't we? Gotta pack BH full of Nyquil and get him to bed early. Sweet dreams from Louisiana.

Jan 27th - Day 14

Got up early and walked the girls so we could catch the shuttle into New Orleans. We enjoyed the French Quarter and walked around for a while and had breakfast at the Clover Grill, one where the locals eat. Just like an old time diner. Really unique. As we walked down the street the street cleaners came by and the whole street smelled like lemons…fabulous. We sat around for a while and then took a city tour of N.O. that was really great. We got to see all the sections of the city both good and bad. It was great. This place really took a beating and it is still going to take a long time to be back to normal. We got back to the MH at around 6:30 and went out for a bite at a little joint called Dot's Diner. It was cute but nothing special.

Jan 28th - Day 15

We drove all day (6-7 hrs) Traffic was horrid. We sat on a bridge forever and Bob was NOT a happy camper. Traffic was just not moving and it was just awful and by the time we got off the sun was blinding us and we couldn't see shit. Not a great day. Then we noticed that the windshield was broken and while we were obsessing about that the freaking shade broke in our faces. Makes me realize so much why I hate to ride in any kind of a vehicle for more than 3 hours. I think Bob would agree with me. We got in to Beaumont Texas at the nicest little park we have ever seen. I cannot say enough good things about this place. It was called Gulf Coast Resort. Nice nice people, great park, clean, free wi fi and even courtesy bikes for guests. They had an unbelievable continental breakfast. The gal was Carolyn and she was so sweet. We were impressed and guess what? Only $17.50 per night.

Jan 29th - Day 16

After our breakfast we got on the road early so as to miss the traffic in Houston. We stopped at El Campo gas station somewhere in Texas on rte 59 for fuel and only paid $2.12 for diesel and $1.65 for gas. What a change from last year. We stopped at something called "Whataburger" for lunch and decided it was not that great. We are here in Corpus Christi at Colonia Del Rey. It is ok but they are packed in here like sardines. Not my kind of place, but will be able to tell more after I have been here a while. They are having a chili cook off tomorrow and a pot luck on Sat. I don't know yet what we will do.

Thank God for everything!!!!
